HEALESVILLE High School has received a generous gift to help its students and develop its media program – a $6000 Sony video camera donated by the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army donated the camera earlier this month to the school, after one of its programs finished and the group had no more use for the camera.
Sarah Eldridge from the Salvation Army said the camera was purchased with money from the Sony Foundation for the Salvation Army to run a music program.
The program has since ended and she said the school was one of the best places to receive the camera.
“We thought we’d give it to a community organisation,” she said.
“At the high school, it’s going to reach the most amount of people for its purpose.”
Ms Eldridge also works at the high school part time as a youth worker and said the camera, along with actress Maria Mercedes’s visit to the school, were part of the Salvation Army working to help the community.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for the Salvos to engage, not with problems, but to be engaging in community activity,” she said.
“I know that things like this are really positive influences on kids and the long-lasting effects are huge.”
Performing Arts Centre manager Troy Jansen said the camera was already being put to good use and would be used for the school’s Aladdin Junior production at the end of August.
