GRAB your gumboots!
As the Yarra Valley Gumboot Season gets into full swing, Rochford Winery will be attempting to break the Guinness World Record for most people simultaneously throwing gumboots.
Residents are being urged to get on board with the event, which begins at 11am with children’s entertainment and a live performance from The Gumboot Dancers, along with food and wine being served.
At 2pm, the main attraction will begin, where visitors will line up on the green with their gumboots in hand and attempt to break the world record.
Tourism, Events and Functions Manager at Rochford Winery Fay Hendricksen said the world record stood at 238 gumboot throwers at last year’s attempt and that she was hoping for a turnout of 300.
Visitors are encouraged to register online for the event because each thrower must receive a barcoded wristband for verification of the record attempt.
Those signing up online will go into the draw to win family general admission passes to an A Day on the Green concert or hot air balloon rides, among other prizes.
At last count, Ms Hendricksen said there was less than 100 registered participants and urged people to get involved.
“Yes it’s winter, but get up, get out and have some fresh air – bring the family out and have some fun!” she said.
The event is free of charge for all visitors and will be held from 11am on Saturday 20 July at Rochford Winery, 878-880 Maroondah Highway in Healesville.
Participants must bring their own gumboots to throw.
