Big skate day sizzles

Joey from the Warburton Skate Park Group shows off his skills on a box to other keen skaters at the Redwood Centre.

FOOD, music, skate ramps and fun were the order of the day for a recent skating event in Warburton.
Many young people went down to skate at the Redwood Centre and got the chance to use ramps, boxes and rails for an entire day.
The Warburton Skate Park Group, which continues to gain support for a permanent skate park in Warburton, secured funding from Youth Foundations Upper Yarra to run the fun day event on Sunday 28 April.
Group volunteers were on hand all day to teach the younger enthusiasts how to use their boards and other techniques for skating.
A sausage sizzle was run by the young skaters and their friends, some of the students from VCAL and parents of skaters.
Entertainment during the day included local musicians Ben Crowley and Bill from Bill and Minnie, who donated their time to support the skaters.
Organiser said it was a great “taste-tester” for some on what could be, as the skate park group continues to raise funds and plan to hold a few more fund-raising activities in the near future.
