Man killed in boat crash

By MARA PATTISON-SOWDEN

YARRA Junction man Barry Long died after a boat overturned in Mallacoota on Monday morning.

The 67-year-old was on the boat with two men and a woman, all from Pakenham, who received minor injuries.

East Gippsland water police were called to the incident around 8.45am and investigators believe the fibreglass fishing boat had travelled through a sand bar at Bastion Point Beach when it overturned, around 80 metres from shore.
A 51-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman both from Pakenham were also on board the vessel and were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

A third man from Pakenham, believed to be in his fifties, was taken to Orbost Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said those involved were helped to shore by local surfers.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
