A SERIES of attacks on grapevines at Badger Creek have both police and the owners of the vineyard at a loss for an explanation.
Around 200 vines have been sawn through in a way that was virtually invisible until the vines, which were under netting, started to wilt.
The Toolebewong Road vineyard is owned by local business operators Bruce and Janette Argyle.
Mr Argyle, who is also chairman of the Healesville Chamber of Commerce, said three rows had been targeted with the first attack sometime before 12 March, then again between 16 and 18 March, and on Thursday, 21 March.
The 20-year-old vines were relocated and hand-planted by Mr Argyle and the vineyard has been something family and friends have been involved in in a very hands-on way for the past nine years.
He said it was both heart-breaking and puzzling, with he and his wife unable to think of anyone they knew who could be responsible.
The damage is estimated at around $10,000 with the additional costs of being forced to put in security at the vineyard.
Detective Matt Phelan of Lilydale Criminal Investigation Unit said they were investigating the matter and would like to hear from anyone who might have seen a car, or any suspicious activity, in the area on the relevant dates.
Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
