50 golden school years

The school to work program saw Healesville High School students join with community groups in a restoration project at Healesville Railway Station in the 90s. THE search is on at Healesville High School for the lost generations.
As the school prepares for its 50-year celebrations in March, principal George Perini said the task over the next month was to get the word out to as many people as possible – former students, teachers, committee members… anyone who had a role in the history and life of the school.
Mr Perini said there were many aspects of the school’s history which they were still unearthing and it was those who were there who knew the stories… and very likely have the photos, trophies, awards and memories over the years.
“We particularly need more information and photos from the ’70s and the ’80s,” Mr Perini said.
“We are missing class photos from the 1970s, and we really don’t know whether photos weren’t taken, or whether we simply have been unable to find them,” he said.
“We would really like people who were past students from those years to not only have a look for anything that will shed light on those years, and add to the presentation we will have on display during the 50th anniversary celebrations,” he said.
With a new $15 million school to show off, and 50 years of history to celebrate, the weekend of 22 to 25 March will be a great one to organise class reunions or to revisit school days with family and friends.
The program includes a meet and greet at Healesville Hotel on the Friday night, an open day with displays and tours at the school on the Saturday, including the launch of the school’s 50-year history book.
A dinner dance on the Saturday night at Rochford is another chance to catch up with friends and on the Sunday there is a BYO everything barbecue/picnic at Queen’s Park.
Mr Perini said the school wanted to make the 50th year weekend a memorable one.
“People can help by making plans now to attend the events and by passing on information to as many people as possible from their own school years,” he said.
