CHRISTMAS was huge in Healesville this year.
The Lions Club and Healesville Sanctuary hosted the annual Carols By Candlelight on 15 December, Healesville Football Netball Club held a Christmas family day on the 16th and the Chamber of Commerce opened the main street on 21 December for its second annual Christmas Street Festival.
Santa was a highlight with long queues of littlies waiting patiently to have a word with the man of the moment in the lead-up to the big day, along with lots of free activities, rides and musical entertainment, the big drawcards for many families.
Chamber Christmas Festival convenor Lisa Fennessy said the chamber had wonderful feedback with people very happy to have the street closed for the event, comments on the ‘community feel’ and the effort put in by the chamber members and businesses.
Crowds flocked to Healesville Sanctuary, a new venue for the carols this year, and the comments were similar … a great community feel, beautiful carols and a wonderful opportunity for people to catch up before Christmas.
Healesville Sanctuary spokeswoman Judy Robertson said they were overwhelmed by the response and the community spirit on the night.
“It was a beautiful evening and we received many positive comments. It was wonderful to open our gates to the local community, our neighbours and we really hope to do it again next year.” she said.
