MONBULK Rangers Soccer Club’s inaugural gala day was a hit with Harry Kewell wannabes of all ages and abilities.
The free fun day’s aim was to open up the world game to Yarra Ranges athletes with intellectual disabilities.
Doveton Special Soccer School supported the Rangers on the day, demonstrating their soccer drill abilities in extremely wet conditions.
An exhibition game between the Rangers’ ladies Kookaburras team and Doveton was a hard-fought affair.
Doveton lent the Kookaburras its goal keeper Toni – a much-needed addition with Doveton boasting three players who’d represented Australia in the Special Olympics.
The Kookas got off to a cracking start and at half time led 3-2. But through sheer tenacity, Doveton kept the Monbulk side scoreless in the second half and scored an equaliser in the dying minutes.
The coaches would like to make the match an annual event. Email Karen Job at treasurer@monbulkrangers.org.au for find out more about participating.
Fun is the goal
