SUPPORTERS of the Caitie Barlow Porphyria Awareness campaign are inviting people to join them in a marvellous masquerade ball on Saturday 24 March.
The Mail wrote of the 16-year-old Healesville teenager’s little-known illness last year when family and friends ran their first event, the Cruise for Caitie, which aimed to raise funds to support her in her treatment and raise awareness.
Caitie’s mother Bronwyn Sands said there is no cure for her debilitating and painful disorder which was diagnosed in 2010.
Caitie has been in and out of hospital, experiencing constant pain and vomiting and her immune system has suffered, leaving her open to infections. Caitie said last year that her illness had turned her world, and her family’s, upside down, but that the cruise and support of family and friend had given her hope.
Friends have again rallied and are hoping the Porphyria Awareness Gala to be held at York on Lilydale at Mt Evelyn will be an opportunity for people from the wider community to join them for a fun night which is a rare opportunity to dress up and be a little mysterious for a great cause.
If anyone has masquerade masks they would like to donate to Caitie’s cause, they can be left at the Mail office in Healesville.
To purchase tickets phone York on Lilydale on 9736 4000 or contact Bron Sands on 0430 237 351.
