HEALESVILLE Soccer Club is revving up for 2012 with a registration day on Saturday 11 February and a junior clinic in February/March.
The registration day for players from seven years of age to adult – girls and boys, women and men – will be held at the Queen’s Park soccer field from 10am to 1pm.
Max and Thomas Horsley were among the first to sign up when the club held a pre-season registration day in November. The boys and mum Naomi braved a downpour to get their names on the list for 2012.
Ms Horsley said her boys loved the game, Australia’s fastest growing sport. “They go to school out of the town, so it also gives them an opportunity to mix with children other than at school,” she said.
The junior clinic will cater for girls and boys aged four – 10 who are already playing or wanting to learn soccer. The four-week program aims to teach kids in a safe and supervised environment.
Experienced helpers and coaches will assist the children in developing basic skills such as control and direction of the ball, aim and passing and goal shooting. The program will run every Wednesday afternoon from 22 February. Registration day for the clinic is on Wednesday 15 February from 4.30pm to 5.30pm.
The cost is $60 and each child receives a ball, cap, certificate and medal on completion of the clinic.
