AS HOT rod and classic car enthusiasts, Healesville couple Stacey and Troy Kinsmore know a lot of people who lost their treasured cars on Black Saturday.
Tragically, they also lost friends Kate Ansett and Steve Fisher who died at Toolangi.
Three years on they have organised the Black Saturday Remembrance Cruise for cars and bikes which will travel from Lilydale along the Melba Highway, through Toolangi and finish back at Healesville railway station.
Ms Kinsmore said the cruise was a way of commemorating the memory of Ms Ansett and Mr Fisher.
“We were both engaged at that time and Kate was helping me with my wedding plans,” Ms Kinsmore said.
“We had a few hot rods, which she loved, and she always dreamed of having one, so this cruise, which will drive past the entrance to their property, is just our way of remembering.
“We will travel through the fire-affected areas including Yarra Glen, Dixons Creek and on the outskirts of Steels Creek, as well as Toolangi and Chum Creek, which will give people an opportunity to reflect,” she said.
The cruise will leave the Pet Stock car park in Lilydale at 4pm and arrived at Healesville around 6pm where the cars and bikes will go on show.
There will be a sausage sizzle or people can take along a picnic dinner.
Healesville Community Labyrinth group is inviting members of the community to then take a Black Saturday Remembrance Walk at the adjoining labyrinth.
A ceremony of remembrance at 7pm will be followed by a reflective labyrinth walk.
People can bring an object to place on the Heart Space during the walk.
It costs $10 for each vehicle to take part and proceeds of the Remembrance Cruise will go to Healesville CFA.
