THE OPENING of the new Narbethong Hall on Saturday, 26 November, by the Governor of Victoria, The Hon. Alex Chernov, was a major milestone for the small community following the devastation of the 2009 fires.
The hall was built as a collaboration of pro-bono services, including by architects BVN, and support from government and sponsors including McDonald’s.
His Excellency Governor Chernov commended the community which he said had “got off their bottoms” to rebuild the hall.
“This opening today really reflects what all of the things that are good about this community,” he said.
“Your volunteers who ran this committee before got out of the starting blocks very soon after the fires and go on with it,” he said.
He said the building was done with great care for the future, and for the environment.
