Inside view of firies’ world

HEALESVILLE CFA will open its giant doors to the public on Saturday, 5 November to provide a behind the scenes look at what the brigade’s 44 volunteer firefighters and 10 support members do.
Healesville’s tailored Township Protection Plan will be launched on day and there will be opportunities for residents to find out more about summer fire safety.
The station, at Crowley Road, will be open between 9am and 4pm for a fun-filled day of family friendly activities, including firefighting demonstrations, face painting, Captain Koala, the smokehouse, and the traditional brigade sausage sizzle.
CFA’s giant ladder platform truck for fighting fires from high in the air will even make an appearance at 3pm.
Brigade Captain Graeme Bates said the day was a great opportunity for the community to get a better understanding of their local brigade, learn how to prepare for the summer fire season ahead and what it is to be a CFA volunteer.
“The open day is about getting the whole family involved in CFA,” Capt Bates said.
“Anyone aged 16 years and over and available during the day is encouraged to consider how valuable they can be to our community, as we desperately need daytime volunteers,” he said.
Crowley Road will be closed between View Street and Symons Street for displays and demonstrations.
