MONBULK Fire Brigade will call for new members and provide community safety advice at its fire and rescue expo this Saturday 5 November.
The day will run from 9.30am to 3.30pm at St George’s Church in Main Street, and is designed to find new recruits for the currently 45-strong crew, demonstrate what they do to help keep the community safe and advise residents on bushfire safety.
Recruiting members for the junior brigade and the brigade auxiliary, which provides support to firefighters in the field, is also a goal.
Police will be on hand to promote vehicle safety and install theft-proof number plate screws for a gold coin donation.
Expo attendees can check out Monbulk’s tanker, pumper tanker, and support vehicle, the Ranges’ forward control vehicle, high-level attack appliance, ‘Bronto’, a DSE tanker and slip-on, and a St John Ambulance vehicle.
Yarra Shire rangers will provide advice about caring for pets in emergencies, and the DSE will have a bushfire behaviour demonstration.
Monbulk Fire Brigade’s rescue unit will present accident release demonstrations, and its junior members will show people what kids aged 10 to 16 can do in the brigade.
Senior members will provide advice on fire extinguishers and a smoke house will allow people to experience an escape from a smoke-filled room.
FireReady Victoria will have displays and advice on family fire safety procedures; there’ll be a children’s art display, face painting and videos on a big screen.
