EDDY Burr was a founding member of the original Woori Yallock Fire Brigade in 1944.
Eddy, 97, has had a constant passion for all things volunteer, clocking up an impressive 65 years’ service with the CFA.
He has been officially recognised for the years with Woori Yallock, which was amalgamated with Launching Place and Don Valley in 2007 to form Hillcrest CFA.
District 13 CFA operations officer Don Tomkins and Hillcrest CFA captain Rick Shaw presented Eddy with his long service medal on 13 September.
Eddy has held the position of secretary for some 26 years, group officer of the Upper Yarra Group for more than 10 years, and lieutenant.
Mr Tomkins said it was a special presentation, and the first time he had presented a 65-year service medal.
Mr Shaw said Eddy had been a large influence on him when he was younger.
Eddy has also been a local councillor including shire president for the Upper Yarra Shire, chairman of the local water trust, and president of the progress association among other roles.
His wife Dulcie, who was also at his side during the presentation, was also thanked for her tireless efforts and support to the CFA.
