GROWING your own vegetables may not be rocket science … but there is definitely a science to getting it right.
Healesville Living and Learning Centre is offering a three-week course Home Grown Veggie Growing starting on 7 November, in conjunction with the Healesville Community Garden, to help people starting their own vegetable garden, or wanting extra motivation and support for their existing veggie patch.
Tutor Travis Heenan is currently doing a diploma of permaculture and has been setting up orchards and vegetable gardens in Melbourne for the last five years.
“This is an introductory course aimed at setting people up to be self sufficient in their vegetable production,” Travis said.
“I will provide with basic skills of setting up veggie patch using permaculture and organic practices, and for this three-week series we will be very much focused on spring planting.”
The workshops will be a great introduction for anyone wanting to purchase a plot at the new Healesville Community Garden set to open later this year.
For more information about the workshops which start on Monday 7 November, contact Healesville Living and Learning Centre on 5962 5982.
