THE 120-year history of the Healesville Tennis Club has been captured in a book to be launched at the Queen’s Park clubrooms on Sunday.
Past and present members are looking forward to the release of Advantage Healesville, sub-titled
“The 120-year story of Healesville Tennis Club”, by club member and local historian Bryn Jones.
The 128-page book covers the history of the club from its formation in 1889 when the gold and green colours were adopted, and the opening the next year of the courts in River Street, major moves, achievements (on and off court), characters whom president Kathleen Cameron describes as a Who’s Who of Healesville and the Yarra Valley over the years, to today’s activities as an active family club.
The open day and historical book launch starts at noon on Sunday 28 August with a sausage sizzle and tennis, followed at 1pm by the launch and at 2pm by a mystery celebrity exhibition match.
