POWELLTOWN footballer Rick Green played his 300th game on 6 August after 27 years at the club.
Since he was 11 years old, the Gilderoy resident has loved playing for Powelltown and said he was proud to make it to 300 games.
“It’s a big effort but it was more of an embarrassment running through the banner than anything,” Rick Green said. “I’ve always enjoyed playing and Powelltown is such a welcoming, family club it’s been great to be involved with them.”
Green said it was a testament to his football club to have so many people reaching their 300-game milestone.
“So many of us have played a large amount of games and it just shows how great the club is when so many players are continuing on at Powelltown.”
In his time at the club he won the 1999 best and fairest award for the Powelltown seniors and captained the club from 1999 to 2003.“When I first started it seemed like all the local kids were in the team which was so great,” he said.
“We’d run from the school bus onto the field and it was pretty much all we ever did.
“Unfortunately, all the clubs in this area are finding it harder and harder to attract local players.”
The avid Collingwood supporter plans to continue his passion for football when he retires at the end of the season.
“I’m going to become a Collingwood member and take my three boys to as many football games as possible,” Green said.
Easy 300 for Rick, finally
