A CROSS section of early years learning professionals in the Upper Yarra will work together to raise awareness of issues concerning young children.
The new Early Years Network Group will meet four times a year to connect with children and families at grassroots level.
The group of 48 people, who work with children from birth to eight years of age, will increase the awareness of services in the area and provide a forum for dialogue that highlights the importance of early childhood.
O’Shannassy Ward councillor Chris Templer said the program was a fantastic opportunity for people in the community to work together on issues relating to young children.
“The greatest benefit to children and families will be that together the network is able to achieve far more than individuals can do alone,” he said.
The network includes professionals from primary and preschool education and welfare, long day care, playgroup, maternal and child health, recreational children’s programs, early intervention, social workers, health, and the Yarra Ranges Council Family and Children’s Services.
Cr Templer said the program was a wonderful initiative that encouraged parents to become involved.
“Parents are invited to join the network as they offer an invaluable perspective on the needs of children in our community,” he said.
The first Early Years Network group met last month, and will meet next on 1 June.
