MUSICIAN Andrew Darling is new to the Yarra Valley, but he is making an impact on a number of levels through his music.
He moved with his family to Warburton last year and is teaching music at Upper Yarra Secondary College and Little Yarra Steiner School.
He also performs in a number of bands and ensembles and on Friday, 25 February, is bringing his reggae band ‘SINE’ to the Grind’n’Groove in Healesville.
He describes SINE as “a very tight, unique band performing original dub-reggae music”, and the band’s catalogue of gigs is impressive.
“We’ve performed at the Sydney Opera House, personally selected by Brian Eno for 2009’s Luminous Festival, opened for Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, the biggest living name in reggae music, and producer of most of Bob Marley’s albums, and we’ve performed at some of the best festivals in Australia,” Andrew said.
“I’m very keen to try and get a lot more music out to the local area from the city, particularly some of the international standard jazz that’s happening in Melbourne,” Andrew told the Mail last week.
“The area seems to be very fertile artistically and more good music out here would be wonderful for the community,” he said.
The band’s website is www.myspace.com/sinedub.
