The panels bring together hundreds of tiles, hand-painted by individuals and community groups over the past two years to raise funds for the project.
They have been incorporated into a series of themed mosaic designs, including mountains, creativity and a leaf design, created by members of the labyrinth artist reference group.
The labyrinth will add another element to the Healesville Tourist Precinct, which includes the Healesville railway station and playground.
The design by Healesville-based international designer Jon Coe was approved in October 2007, with Mr Coe describing it at the time as “… a gathering place, an art place, a place of celebration or a place of tranquillity”.
He predicted it would attract not only locals, but people from many places.
With construction of the main elements of the project now well underway in readiness for the official opening on 19 March, committee members and volunteers were given access to the site to erect and grout the panels.
Project manager Gary Fisher of construction firm Excell Gray Bruni said he and his team were enjoying working on the project – which includes the laying of 30,000 paving stones.
“Something like this, working for the community, and with the community, is very rewarding … and it can also be challenging,” he said.
“Weekly meetings with Yarra Ranges Council and with Jon (Coe) are invaluable.”
