20 years on the farm

YARRA Valley residents have been strong supporters of the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo (SAFE) over the years and this year are invited to help celebrate the event’s 20th birthday.
From small beginnings, the expo has grown both in exhibitors and visitors.
In celebration of SAFE’s 20th year, a new art competition has been launched giving amateur, emerging and established artists a chance to share their interpretations of ‘Rural Life’.
An exhibition of competition entries, comprising 2D and 3D works, will be a feature of this year’s expo.
A competition prize pool valued at over $5000 is on offer and according to director Colin Stray the inaugural event has sparked great interest and support from the art community.
Another new feature this year is Timberland, where a number of skilled tradespeople transform logs of timber into furniture and other unique handmade products.
With in excess of 100 new exhibitors this year the expo remains fresh with the best of what the country can offer in new products and equipment, including the latest concepts, energy saving building ideas, country gourmet foods, livestock display and poultry.
There will be a strong emphasis on lifestyle, a farmers’ market, the snake show, chainsaw carving, working sheepdogs, country cook-off, butcher’s shop, gourmet food court, lectures and lashings more!
“It’s a day full of entertainment with something for everyone,” Mr Stray said.
The Seymour Alternative Farming Expo is held at Kings Park in Tallarook St, Seymour on 18, 19, and 20 February.
