Rotarians turn park around

YARRA Junction’s Memorial Park is looking spick-and-span, thanks to the hard work of Upper Yarra Rotarians.
The rotary members have spent months landscaping the perimeter of the park, before completely rebuilding areas of the playground.
Some working bees in November were washed out and the building continued into December. Despite one arson attempt, the park opened for the school holidays with lots of children looking for things to do.
The playground was burnt down in September 2009, after arsonists set the wooden structure on fire.
Upper Yarra Rotary members, who first built it in 2001, stepped up and said they would rebuild the playground.
Funds to rebuild the playground have come from the Yarra Ranges Council, the Community Bank Enterprise and sausage sizzles and raffles held by the UYRC.
The next stages will be completed over the coming months. However, the park is still in full swing.
