KEITH Thompson’s involvement with cricket truly has been a lifetime achievement.
Mr Thompson received one of two Mayor’s Lifetime Achievement Awards presented at the Yarra Ranges Council’s Australia Day Awards at Mont De Lancy on Australia Day.
Mr Thompson of Seville has spent 40 years with the Yarra Valley Cricket Association, the past 31 as secretary/treasurer, as well as 26 years as secretary for the South East Country region of the Victorian Country Cricket League (VCCL) and 26 years as a board member of the VCCL board, the past three as secretary.
Accepting the award “not just for myself, but on behalf of the fabulous game of cricket”, Mr Thompson said the first cricket game he attended was as a baby in a bassinette at a match his father was playing in for Wandin.
Presenting the award Cr Graham Warren thanked Mr Thompson for his enormous contribution to cricket. He said his passion for regional cricket had seen him spend thousands of hours dedicated to the sport and advancing it in the Yarra Valley.
“On behalf of all the cricket tragics, thank you for your efforts over such a long time,” he said.
