UGLY, but nice

By Mara Pattison-Sowden
YARRA Valley’s UGLY bartenders raised almost $10,000 for leukaemia research during November.
In only the second year it has been running, more than $72,000 was raised across Victoria for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Yarra Junction’s Adrian Lowie raised more than $5700 through the Cunningham Hotel by holding a motorbike show and auctions at the hotel.
Wesburn’s Sam Knott Hotel bartender Simone Kelsall raised more than $3000, which owner Kerri Beal said was a “phenomenal effort” for a small country pub.
The Sam Knott held a pool competition and a drag show.
Healesville’s Grand Hotel put $1 into a kitty for every ‘shot’ sold and raised more than $1000 for the foundation.
The money raised by the UGLY bartenders will help the Leukaemia Foundation to fund research to develop better treatments and cures for the disease.
Adrian wasn’t far off the mark, with the UGLY bartender of the year crown going to Keren Fowle, a barmaid at Frankston’s Grand Hotel, who raised $8700.
