JOSHUA Pye and his fiancee Chantelle Gray, both 22, have lowered the average age of bowlers at the Healesville and Marysville golf clubs.
They are part of a small, but growing, new demographic of young bowlers who are keeping the game alive on the greens and in the committee rooms.
They are great advocates for the game and are encouraging people to do what they have done and give bowling a try.
Healesville Bowling Club is opening its greens to the public on Sunday for a free Try Bowls Day.
Joshua was introduced to the game six years ago by an uncle and then all his family followed and took up the sport. Joshua transferred to Marysville after the bushfires to help rebuild the Marysville teams.
Three years ago he encouraged Chantelle to have a go. The couple say they not only love the sport as a social and competitive activity, but also for the family and community involvement.
Chantelle is the youngest member at Healesville – and this year took on the job of secretary.
“I am certainly hoping to get a few more young people involved. The older members enjoy having young bowlers around and know they need to encourage young bowlers to keep the club going,” she said.
Themed as “the sport for all ages,” Try Bowls Day is a chance to get to know the game and the club.
