AFTER the success of last year’s marathon festival, the Marysville community is preparing to show off their town once again.
The 2009 festival was an opportunity for the community to come together to witness the regeneration that followed the devastation of the Black Saturday bushfires.
The community realised it was essential for visitors to return to the area, and more than 3000 people participated in last year’s marathon.
Marysville’s only doctor Lachlan Fraser responded to the fires by telling the people, “as an ultra-marathon runner I determined in that first week that we must have our own marathon, in defiance of the calamity that overwhelmed us”.
The 2010 Marysville Marathon Festival is a further opportunity to focus on renewal and recovery.
All money raised will go towards community groups including the local CFA, SES and King Billi Wildlife Reserve.
The 10km and 3km run/walk will take place on Sunday 7 November 2010 at the Marysville Recreation Reserve.
