Community enterprise as new trainer takes the wheel

NEW drivers in the Upper Yarra have been learning how to drive for the last few years with a special program run by the Upper Yarra Community Enterprise.
Ballarat resident Trev Sobey has been delivering the week-long courses out of Wesburn during each school holiday period, driving to Ballarat and back during the week to change vehicles, so his learners get experience in both manual and automatic vehicles.
Mr Sobey, who is in his 60s, has decided to throw in the towel and has been training-up a local driving instructor to take over the Driver Ed course.
Yarra Junction resident Burnie Jager has been a driving instructor in the region for more than 17 years.
Upper Yarra Community Enterprise executive officer Geoff Vickers said the results of the course had been outstanding.Mr Vickers said the program would remain identical, and Mr Jager would be contracted to the Driver Training Academy.
There are two places available for the next course commencing on Monday 20 September and three in the week, commencing 27 September. An after-school option will become available from 5 October.
Mr Vickers said the Warburton and Yarra Junction Community Bank branches offer generous subsidies to their customers.
Applications and inquiries can be made at either branch or the website www.upperyarra.net.au
