Burst of strawberry flavour

Strawberry upside down cake is a certain winner at home or in the picnic basket.Strawberry upside down cake is a certain winner at home or in the picnic basket.

WHEN it comes to the most delicious of all fruits, strawberries, the Yarra Valley is truly spoilt.
Ninety per cent of the strawberry farms in Victoria can be found in the Yarra Valley.
High up in the rarefied atmosphere of Toolangi, strawberry runners are grown in quarantine conditions for supply to growers in the valley below.
Toolangi, in fact, is the largest supplier of runners in the southern hemisphere sending out more than 50 million runners each year.
On the valley floor, the growers, many second and third generation descendants of the migrant families who first started growing strawberries commercially in the 1950s, continue to supply this delicious, nutritious berry.
These recipes, from the Victorian Strawberry Industry Development Committee in Wandin North, are perfect for a spring lunch, afternoon tea, or perhaps a picnic at the races!
