A HAT-TRICK by Sally Williams steered Monbulk’s women reserves to a 3-0 win over South Yarra in the last round of games for this season.
Monbulk started off slowly and without intensity but still held a 1-0 half-time lead. The second half saw an increase in pressure with deft passing through the midfield leading to another two goals to seal the win.
The women’s seniors had their first win for the second half of the season, defeating South Yarra 2-0.
Monbulk held its ground against a side that favoured aggression over skill. It worked well as a team, supporting each other and providing options for passes. Emily Hulbert scored her first goal for Monbulk and Michelle de Boer contributed to the score sheet as well.
The under-18 Pythons remain undefeated this season and will go on to play finals against the top teams from other leagues in the state.
The Pythons defeated DOC United 5-1 in what was a hard-fought game. They dominated possession with Patrick O’Loughlin and Jacco Kersten both scoring two goals and James Hulbert the other.
The under-16 Lasers had their first win of the season, defeating Knox City 1-0.
The victory showed their commitment until the end of what was a tough season. The Lasers worked hard, producing a great deal of pressure across the field. Alexa Allan was the goal scorer.
The Men’s Arrows finished their season in spectacular fashion, beating Bayswater Strikers 10-0. The Wynne brothers, Robert and Christopher, scored four goals each with Tristian Fraser and Jack Kirkham each contributing one.
The Arrows finished the season top of the table, three points clear and with a 31-goal advantage over the next team on the ladder, Mitcham Titans. Both teams will be promoted to Division 3 next year.
The under-12 boys also finished on top of the ladder, after only one loss for the season.
