THE O’Shannassy Aqueduct Trail in the Yarra Ranges National Park is open for walkers.
The trail was one of many tourism features of the shire that required rebuilding following the Black Saturday fires.
Minister for Tourism Martin Ferguson, who officially opened the trail last Monday 9 August, said projects like the O’Shannassy Aqueduct Trail would help the local industry get back on its feet.
“Many people in this region rely on tourism for their livelihood – it supports jobs in hospitality, retail, wineries, national parks and accommodation,” he said.
“Tourism generates almost $240 million annually in this region alone.”
More than $800,000 has been used to improve the safety of pedestrian crossings at Acheron Way and Don Road, including the construction of new trail and ramps.
This project was funded jointly by the Federal and Victorian Governments from the $10 million Victorian Bushfires Tourism Industry Support Package.
