A CULTURAL visit hosted by Healesville Uniting Church will provide community members with an opportunity to talk with delegates from Christian and Muslim communities in Indonesia.
Healesville Uniting Church spokesman Alan Honeycombe said in the mono-cultural communities of the Yarra Valley, the visit by the six Christian and six Muslim representatives provides an opportunity for people to find out how moderate members of both faiths are trying to build bridges in Indonesia.
The visitors have been staying with Uniting Church families.
“It not only gives us an opportunity to find out about their faith, but for them to find out about our culture,” Mr Honeycombe said.
“We hear so much about fundamentalist Muslims, but not about the moderate Muslim faith. This type of interaction can be part of dispelling fear that is based on ignorance,” he said.
A cultural dinner and get-together will be held in the Darron Honey Centre on Saturday, with an inter-faith workshop service at Healesville Uniting Church on Sunday at 11am.
“Anyone who would like to come is welcome,” Mr Honeycombe said.
