THE Monbulk Rangers under-12 Angels won their first game for the season, defeating Caulfield 3-2.
The Angels started strongly, with Jacquelene Horsburgh and Meg Novotny scoring in the first half. The Angels were up 2-0 at half time before Caulfield came back to even the score. The Angels fought hard, leading to a nail-biting finish, with Horsburgh scoring her second and the winning goal with only minutes to spare. It was a superb team effort, with every girl playing to her best.
The Men’s Arrows defeated Knox 7-1 to retain top spot on the ladder.
The Arrows dominated possession and worked well, feeding balls through the midfield to the strikers. Goals were scored by James Hulbert, John Turpin, Chris Wynne, Robert Wynne, while Josh Newman netted two. A Knox own goal was also scored.
The Women’s seniors lost to Ballarat 2-1, in a game played in atrocious conditions.
Unfortunately, the reserves match was cancelled at the last minute. It was clearly a frustrating decision for those who made the trek to Ballarat. Playing on a waterlogged pitch covered with mud, the seniors game was slow and scrappy. They fought hard nonetheless, doing their best in the conditions. Sammi Maisey scored Monbulk’s goal in the last few minutes of the game.
In other games, the men’s Forest smashed Mitcham 8-0, the under-15 Shredders defeated Casey 1-0 and the under-11 Falcons drew 2-2 with Lilydale.
Heavenly ending for Angels
