GLEN VALLEY Produce in Yarra Glen is a supermarket for hungry dogs and cats … and cattle, sheep, alpacas, mice, chooks, pigs, goats, canaries, parrots … and finches.
The produce store, located in Armstrong Grove opposite the Yarra Valley Racing Centre, is packed to the rafters with all the different foods that animal owners need to keep their pets and livestock in peak condition.
“You have different mixes for all types of birds, and different pellets for pigs at their various stages, either growing or breeding, for instance, they need the right nutrients for the particular animal depending on what stage they are at,” said Kathy Blumson who with husband Kelvin, bought the business nearly two years ago.
Andrew Davies is the other member of the team. He has been there for nearly 20 years.
Their combined experience and knowledge is a great asset for customers.
“We had horses ourselves for 30-odd years and most animals over the years with a fair bit to do with cattle and sheep,” Kathy said.
Kelvin still competes in show jumping.
“We are always very happy to advise on the various aspects of animal care,” she said.
Quality is a key component, especially with chaff and hay and Kathy said they are particularly vigilant in ensuring whatever they sell is up to standard.
They also keep a good range of dog and cat food and are stocking more of the specialist dog foods including Eukanuba and Hills varieties, along with the general range.
Glen Valley has a good range of dog and horse rugs, horse shoes and an extensive range of veterinary products.
They deliver throughout the Yarra Valley and as far afield as Kinglake and Glenburn, Narbethong and across to Woori Yallock and Seville, offering free delivery on orders of over $150. A $5 delivery fee is applicable on other orders.
