Report for a better look

A REPORT from the Yarra Glen and District Township Group outlines the capital works program being developed by Yarra Ranges Council for the Yarra Glen region and discussion with the group.
Some major works have started and others are at the planning phase.
The group says many of the projects will improve the face of Yarra Glen and provide great opportunities for a better working and living environment.
Several of the projects have been funded by the Sugarloaf Pipeline Alliance, others come from grants received as part of the bushfire recovery program.
The Township Group emphasised the importance of these developments to the future look and liveability of Yarra Glen, Dixons Creek and Steels
Creek and believes it is up to people in the area to make sure they are aware of what is going on – and to grab the opportunity to have their say.
The report includes a detailed summary of numerous projects that have, and will, impact on the local area, including footpaths, roads, recreation, township improvements and other projects including the Yarra Valley Racing Centre master plan, which includes a hotel development, development of a township hub and the Yarra Valley Tourist Railway’s plans for their ongoing role in Yarra Glen.
Ryrie Ward representative Cr Jeanette McRae, who has worked closely with the township group, said there was a lot going on and planned for Yarra Glen and surrounding areas over the next 12 months.
“When people who live and work and play in the area have an interest in and actively participate in determining outcomes, we end up with a strong, committed and connected community,” she said.
“The main purpose of the Township Group is to help provide a collective forum for people to have their say and to identify issues and ideas.
With their AGM on 18 August, it is the ideal opportunity for interested community members to commit to the future wellbeing of their community and become more involved.
“The region is a special place and residents have a stake in making sure they have an environment which meets the needs of a country town and surrounding district,” Cr McRae said.
The meeting is at SVS Management Services in Bell Street between 6pm and 8pm.
