GRIND N GROOVE has succumbed to community pressure – the popular Healesville café-bar and entertainment venue is now open “by request” during the day.
“We’re now open all day from 11am from Friday through to Sunday,” said owner Gemma Pitcher. “We had so many requests from our patrons that we have very happily extended our hours,” Gemma said.
Grind N Groove has garnered a loyal following as a music venue which supports local musicians on stage as well as bringing an eclectic mix of musos into the town.
The café and outdoor beer garden have a relaxing atmosphere – day or night – with comfortable nooks, a cosy log fire and vibrant décor. Along with the extended hours Gemma has introduced a café-style menu which has been enormously successful.
The menu which includes toasted sandwiches, soups, nachos and the GNG’s famous wedges with sour cream and chilli sauce, changes regularly, so there is always something new and different.
There is also a selection of muffins, slices and biscuits to enjoy with a hot coffee, chocolate or tea. Gemma said they are delighted to have recently moved to Ranges Coffee which is a local company.
“We wanted to support locals and are pleased to say Ranges Coffee at Grind N Groove is unique to Healesville,” she said.
The well-stocked bar offers a good range of spirits, cocktails, boutique beers and ciders and Yarra Valley wines.
On the music scene there is also a changing venue of genres including groups as diverse as Lyndal Barry and the Apollos, Keshie, Lilly and King, The Crooks, I Heart Cusack, Sarah Eida, The Jed Rowe Band, Stringybark McDowell, The Justin Walshe Folk Machine, Dirt River Radio, The Dukes of Despair and The Hannafords.
Coming up on Friday 20 August Reece Dillion is a debut artist and on 21 August, Fats Wah Wah will return.
Wednesday nights are Open Mic Night with various hosts and a feast of local talent.
Grind N Groove is at 274 Maroondah Highway and is open Wednesday and Thursday from 7pm to midnight, Friday and Saturday from 11am to 1am and Sunday from 11am to 5pm. Phone 5962 6840, or visit www.grindngroove.com for the latest band lists.
