From adversityto opportunity

By Kath Gannaway
“PEOPLE” is a word that crops up quite a lot when you talk business with Phil Marendaz.
As an accountant and business manager with 35 years’ experience, Mr Marendaz sees the difference his work makes in the lives of his clients.
It’s very much about the people and the opportunities available to them through professional and caring business advice.
“Being able to make a positive difference to our clients in terms of business outcomes is one of the most rewarding parts of the job,” said Mr Marendaz, director of Marendaz Accountants and Business Consultants in Diamond Creek.
The company provides a full range of services including accounting, taxation and lending. Financial planning will also be available by early next year, and a mortgage broker currently works from the Diamond Creek office.
“We are a unique practice, combining strong commercial business experience and high level tax advice because of the range of skills of the directors and staff,” Mr Marendaz said.
“We value highly the people contact with clients, suppliers and staff and work at it to ensure all these areas have positive outcomes.”
Mr Marendaz said part of their role was to engender a better understanding among small business operators that business advice was not just a cost on the bottom line, but, if done properly, an investment in the profit growth of the business.
Conversely, he said the challenge for his company was to quickly assess and understand client’s needs and deliver outcomes at a cost which was commensurate with expectations.
Part of that is keeping ahead of the game in terms of new software that can minimize time on the job and keep fees contained.
You might imagine that the advice mostly offered to clients would be about things like keeping receipts, monitoring cash flow and keeping up with BAS.
But, what is the most common piece of advice Mr Marendaz and his team give their clients?
“That’s easy,” he says. “Out of adversity comes opportunity”.
