A FIRE in a disused Emerald bike shop yesterday sparked a manhunt for an arsonist.
As the Mail went to print, police were still searching the area for the person responsible for the second storey blaze in Belgrave-Gembrook Road.
Fire crews were called to the former store just before 10am and arrived to find carpet in the upper storey alight.
Emerald CFA captain Paul Yandle said his crew extinguished the blaze in just minutes with help from Clematis brigade members. Mr Yandle said there was “not a lot of damage”.
A police helicopter and several officers were on the scene soon after to search for the firebug.
