Wandin misses finals

BATTING first in its semi-final clash against Warburton in the D. J. Strachan Shield on Saturday, Mount Evelyn reaching 151 before being dismissed with Andrew Giblin on 31, while Luke Darwall bowled well to take 4 for 47 in reply at stumps.
Warburton Millgrove, with 3/67 to Scott Darwall 3/30 to Kane Jones ended the day on 28.
In the other semi at Wandin shield holders had Seville on the ropes at 6/123 after day one before a fighting lower order on a fast field allowed Seville to reach 222 with Leigh Atkins on 73 leading the batting.
Best of the Wandin bowlers was Simon Young with 5/80; Wayne Ross had 2/63 and Jackson Wright 3/35.
In reply Wandin got away to a great start with 70 without loss at one stage. But once opener Troy Murphy was dismissed for 38 a collapse took place with six wickets falling for 12 runs.
At the close of play Wandin was 6/82 with T. Murphy 38, Ishara Amarasinghe 2/23, Paul Dicello 2/9 and Adam Burns 1/8.
The R. A. Finger Trophy matches also continued on Saturday after Monday’s first day with the match at Healesville seeing the home side winning its way into the final by defeating Woori Yallock in a close but low-scoring match.
Woori Yallock was 82 with Julian Smith on 35, C. Burridge taking 6/30 and Allan Pearce 4/23. It lost to Healesville’s 8/83 with Mark Powell 25, Michael Davern 19, R. Steggles taking 3/19 and J. Smith 2/16.
The other semi at Seville was a high-scoring game with Seville closing its innings at 8/390 with Matt Walker making 120, Scott Page 69 and Roger Oates 69.
At the end of play on day two, Yarra Junction was 3/142 with A. Dolan on 41. With seven wickets in hand and almost 250 runs required, the match had plenty left in it for day three.
In the C Grade1 semi-finals, Kinglake batting first, was 161 all out with Jamie Morgan on 57 and John MeKendry on 30. For Launching Place Michael Young took 3/32 and Adam Cope 3/54.
Powelltown was 0/35 in reply to Gruyere District’s 152 with B. Hunter on 52 not out and Dean Prouse 22. Brendan Green bowled well to take 7/45 and S. Wynd took 2/34.
By Sunday, Warburton Millgrove was struggling against Mount Evelyn’s. Scott Darwall made 43, Kane Jones took 5/64 for Mount Evelyn. A. Giblin made 31 and L. Darwall took 4/47.
Wandin staged a bit of a fightback to be dismissed for 162 with the injured Scott Hassan returning to the crease to score a solid 45, while Troy Murphy made 38. Paul Dicello bowled steadily for 4/32. Wandin lost to Seville’s 222 with L. Atkins on 73, A. Burns 22 and I. Amarasinghe 22. S. Young took 5/80 and J. Wright 3/35.
In the R. A. Finger Trophy match Yarra Junction was dismissed for 239 with D. Robertson on 47 and Roger Oates taking 5/49, losing to Seville’s 8/390. Matt Walker took 120, S. Page 69 and R. Oates 69.
The One-Day Grade results from the qualifying matches on Saturday will see the semi-finals played this Saturday between Kinglake and Healesville and Gruyere against Powelltown.
