Make the connection

THE need to be prepared for bushfire will not pass with this summer season.
For people living or travelling in bushfire-prone areas the need to be fire ready is very much a year-round responsibility.
The Black Saturday Royal Commission recognised, among other things, that reliable communications in such a catastrophe are vital, and can be the difference between life and death.
A portable UHF CB or scanner/receiver can become a valuable tool in the event of a bushfire.
Icom Australia Pty Ltd can provide the type of serious communications required in such a situation.
“Our commercial grade IC-41S is built tough to withstand extreme conditions,” said Icom managing director Takashi Aoki.
“The IC-41S has a large capacity 2000mAh Lithium-Ion battery which provides roughly eight hours of typical use per charge. With 5-watt output power and many scanning options, the IC-41S makes it easy to stay in touch during an emergency,” he said.
Icom’s range of scanner/receivers will also prove to be invaluable during the unrelenting fire season.
Mr Aoki said the IC-R5 has full frequency coverage, can receive on FM, WFM and AM bands and comes pre-programmed for Australian use.
“This allows the user to stay aware of any danger, through monitoring emergency broadcast systems,” he said.
“In rural areas, the analogue signals transmitted by police and fire authorities can also be received.”
