Summer of art

THE annual Summer School of Music and Art is synonymous with summer holidays in Healesville.
This year will be the 14th season the Yarra Valley Arts Council has staged what has become an eagerly anticipated part of the Yarra Valley’s calendar.
The program offers a week of workshops in more than 20 activities from choir, jazz improvisation and Brazilian singing to life drawing, ceramics and glassblowing.
Large-scale landscape painting and string ensemble, pastel and watercolour painting, monoprinting, nuno and ukulele are also included in the workshops which range from one day to the full five-days of fun and tuition.
Workshops are led by professional artists who encourage students of all ages and abilities.
The youth program includes performing arts for younger teens, playmation and digital photography.
Primary aged children can tap into a hands-on week of fun activities in the Arts for Kids program – recommended for children six-plus.
The Summer School, held at Healesville Primary School and the adjacent St Brigid’s Primary School, culminates with a concert and dinner at the RACV Healesville Country Club.
The YVAC encourages participation in the programs and has a limited number of subsidised places available for those experiencing financial hardship.
Yarra Valley Arts Council members will be happy to advise on any of the classes, sponsorships and other details. Phone Rita or Jeni on 5962 6916, or visit www.yarravalleyarts.com .
Applications close on 18 December.
