THE Whitehorse Over 60s Cricket went in to bat on Sunday for the Kinglake and Marysville sporting communities.
Yarra Valley cricketers in the ’60 not out’ age group joined players from around Victoria at Seville for a fundraiser.
Former Yarra Valley players joined cricketers from Box Hill, Ringwood, Boronia, Ferntree Gully and the Mornington Peninsula in beautiful cricket weather for both players and spectators.
Whitehorse organiser Norm McLeod said the day was a success with great cricket on the pitch, excellent umpiring by the Yarra Valley Cricket Umpires Association and generous support from spectators and players who helped to raise more than $1000 for the cause.
Mr McLeod expressed his thanks to YVCA secretary, Keith Thompson, Seville Cricket Club representative Fiore Dipietro and everyone who donated prizes for the lucky draw.
“We had quite a few comments at the end of the day requesting a re-match next year and we had a few interested over 60s keen to get back into the game, so it was a success all-round,” he said.
