KNOX Gardens has claimed its first points in the Knox Tavern Cup since its return to the top grade.
Batting first last week the Falcons set the Eildon Park Panthers a target of 221 before holding their nerve to take the points with five runs to spare.
The Panthers will be disappointed to fall short despite contributions from Nathan Hicks, Matt Sinclair and Cody Morris.
It was swing bowler Adam Wild who did the damage for the Falcons.
Belgrave managed to chase down St Johns Tecoma’s 4/296 with one wicket in hand and five balls to spare.
The Magpies were 6/108 at tea before a 172-run stand between Leigh Newey(105 with 19 fours) and Tom Wulz (53) seemed to take the game away from the Saints.
Young spinner Corey Brasher was introduced into the attack in the 73rd over and had Newey stumped to break the partnership. The Magpies then lost 3/0 in the next three overs, as they game hung in the balance. Litterbach and Raymond added 14, before the final equation saw three required off one Marc Hardy over.
Litterbach struck the first ball of the over to the boundary to seal the win, while Hardy finished with 4/87 off 38 overs.
Johnson Park gave Lysterfield a cricket lesson with Brynn Gaunt batting the day for 175 not out.
The Sharks amassed 355 runs for the loss of only five wickets with Dimitri Sirawardeena making his second century of the season (109).
With Lysterfield scoring only 160 last week most of the day was batting practice for the Sharks.
Former Victorian Country Rep Gaunt is averaging 98.5 with the bat, surprisingly just behind Kyle Snyman who tops the list with an average of 100.
Upper Ferntree Gully has moved into second spot on the ladder thanks to its win over Upwey.
The Kings managed 8/129 with Jason Roberts (42) and Shane Colee (32 n.o.) being the main protagonists.
Paul Wilson fought on for the Tigers with 4/30, although it was last week’s batting performance that cost Upwey.
The Basin has racked up two wins in a row with Skipper Steve Elworthy topping the list of scores.
The Huntsmen chased down Monbulk’s 159 despite the best efforts of Aaron Walter (4/52)
Luke Bowyer made 122 not out as the Ferntree Gully Blues rolled on, taking the points over Rowville.
Shane Richardson also was among the runs with 52 while Nick Bogar spearheaded the Rowville attack.
In the Decoite Shield, last season’s finalists, Knoxfield again collapsed for less than 100 as it failed to chase down Aura Vale’s total.
With Tom Boxell scoring 51 not out questions will be asked down at Carrington Park. Aura Vale was routed in its second innings for 78 thanks to Ben Morris’s 7/33.
Simon Dignan took 6/44 as Footballers accounted for Knox, and South Belgrave dismissed Mountain Gate for 175 in its win.
