FERNTREE Gully’s premiership opening bowler David Anstey was putting his feet up on Saturday night after a marathon performance in round six against a new look Rowville outfit at Seebeck Reserve.
Anstey, dubbed “Twinks” by his team-mates because of his bowling action bowled 39 overs to take 6/64 with skipper Shane Richardson giving him a “spell” one over prior to the tea break before bowling unchanged to stumps.
Rowville were in deep trouble at 9/148 before the father-son partnership of Craig and Ryan Arnell added 35 to post 9/183, giving the Hawks the chance of causing an upset next week.
St John’s Tecoma have turned the corner belting 4/296 at home to Belgrave with veteran opener Dean Palandri (102) and Marc Hardy (112) with the pair adding 196 for the third wicket. Hardy slammed 13 boundaries and three sixes while his partner struck the fence on 14 occasions.
If there was ever a ground to chase almost 300 runs, Talaksia Reserve is the venue, however the prospect of Hardy taking one end with the ball next week, a second win for the Saints is looking good.
Knox Gardens are well on the way to their first win if they can repeat their bowling performance from last game against Upwey.
Batting first, the Falcons have registered 221 against the highly fancied Eildon Park with Mark Dalton (36) and Phillips (42) getting starts. Steve Pimm and Nathan Caton-Robertson were the best performers with the ball.
Monbulk had 11 overs remaining when their innings was halted due to rain against The Basin. However with only one wicket in hand and hard-hitting skipper Aaron Walter (49*) still at the crease, the Huntsmen will be keen for Walter to stay at the other end while they wrap up the innings in quick fashion.
Medium pacer Matt Heskes is back in town with a fine return of 4/39. With only 156 on the board, Monbulk will be looking for another 40 runs.
Lysterfield were desperate for partnerships against Johnson Park but were dismissed in the 79th over for 160.
Kyle Snyman (75), Jarrod Moody and Sean Aslton were the only batsmen to get going while 26-year-old off-spinner Sean Langenberg performed well on debut with 4/41 from 18 overs for the Sharks who must win to stay within reach of the four.
In the final game Upwey appeared to have used their get-out-of-gaol card last week when Upper Gully knocked them over for only 119 and at 1/31, the Kings were in command at stumps.
