New chapter in fire recovery

REBUILD With Books is a novel project which aims to help residents who lost their homes or book collections in the recent fires.
Residents can collect new and mint-condition second hand books for free from the Healesville and Yarra Junction Eastern Regional Libraries.
Healesville Library branch manager Julie Bailey said both libraries have boxes of books covering a range of age group and genres.
“There are fictional story books, non fiction, cookery, craft, family health and then all your well known authors – Stephen King, Bryce Courtney…,” said Ms Bailey.
“We also have lots of lovely children’s picture books.”
She said while few several people had visited the Healesville branch to collect books, they still had plenty more to giveaway as part of the helpful project.
“I think it’s a great idea,” she said.
“The people that have been in here are just so grateful to get them and they were surprised, too, to see the quality condition the books are in.”
Blue-card holders are welcome to go to the libraries during normal opening hours to pick out books.
For more information on the Rebuild With Books project contact Healesville Library on 5962 4423 or Yarra Junction Library on 5967 1588.
