YARRA Valley’s reputation as a top wine and food region was further enhanced last week.
Punt Road Wines and Long Gully Estate received gold medals at the National Cool Climate Wine Show and Eleonores restaurant at Chateau Yering was awarded Modern Australian Restaurant in the Restaurant and Catering Australia awards.
Punt Road Wines received a gold medal for its 2008 Cabernet and a bronze for its 2008 Shiraz. Long Gully Estate received a gold medal for its 2007 Chardonnay Wooded and a silver for its 2006 Dry Red-Merlot.
It was also given a bronze for its 2008 Riesling.
Selville Estate, Henley Premium Vineyards and Stuart Wines Company received silver and bronze medals, with Train Trak Winery, Millers Dixons Creek Estate and Leayton Estate also receiving bronze.
Chateau Yering’s executive chef Matthew Macartney said he was thrilled that a restaurant in the Yarra Valley could not only compete with the big names in Sydney and Melbourne but beat them.
“We work very hard at giving our diners a unique experience. Our current Spring Menu has some fascinating and adventurous combinations of produce from local suppliers and fresh markets,” he said.
