THE retirement of two long-serving members of the Badger Creek’s V.C. Mullett Hall committee has left considerable shoes to fill.
Les and Dot Harsant have more than earned their retirement from decades of voluntary work at the hall, but the drive will now be on to boost committee numbers.
“We’re down to five members,” said president Kevin Mason, who has been hoping to emulate the success of their last recruitment drive when they invite the community to a family picnic tea on Friday, 13 November.
The hall committee has struggled to maintain effective numbers for many years, gaining two or three members from time to time when the future of the hall was seen to be in doubt.
Kathy Cameron was a new resident of Badger Creek when she answered the last call for help two or three years ago.
She says the hall had much to offer and being involved in its running was a great way to get to contribute to the community. “We are having a family picnic tea from 5pm to 8pm on Friday 13 November and we are hoping to have a great roll up so we can show people what a wonderful asset the hall and its facilities are to Badger Creek,” Ms Cameron said.
In addition to a spacious hall, kitchen and original stage, there will be a separate meeting room, fenced playground and off-street parking.
The picnic tea will also be a good opportunity for families with young children to inspect the playgroup room, which it has been hoped would be back in use soon. “We’re currently looking for a leader to run a playgroup here,” Ms Cameron explained.
Local residents are invited to pack a picnic tea and drinks and join the V. C. Mullett Hall committee for a friendly get together. Tea, coffee and cordial will be supplied.
