THE YVCA, D J Strachan Shield held one-day matches in Round 3 because of last week’s wash-outs and this week the weather was fine and beautiful, with only one game needing to be transferred to a new venue.
Gruyere District was all out for 130 with Luke Sarre 40 not out as Hoddles Creek’s Simmonds took 5/22. The visitors made 9/142 with Michael Batten making 44 while Sweeten, Tilney and Sarre took three wickets each, but not enough for a win.
Warburton Millgrove, at home to Mt Evelyn, reached 6/142 off 40 with Brad Winzer (55) and Brent Summers (46) best and Kane Jones did the job with the ball taking 3/30. Mount Evelyn was 6/229 and Kane Jones completed a man-of-the-match performance with 125, helped by brother Luke with 44. Cam Darwall was the best of the Warburton bowlers with 3/48.
Coldstream hosted Healesville, which made 196 in its innings for the loss of just three wickets, with S. James 62 not out, B. Dolan 42 not out and B. Slater 59.
Old stagers Paul Evans (1/20) and Chris Dobson (1/28) were the best of the Coldstream bowlers.
At the crease Coldstream manage only 110 with Nathan Cuthbertson making 33, while Darren Edwards took 4/16, Ben Slater 3/18 and Daniel Rogers 3/25.
Yarra Junction venue was not in the best condition but the home team managed 6/174 with Stephen Flutter (65) and Brad Jones (49) leading the way. Sharp took 4/36 and Michael King 2/28 for Woori Yallock. Woori’s bats were dismissed for 140 with Nathan Ward making 40 and Cal Ferguson 27 and Stu Thompson (4/20) and David Lever (4/34) taking the wickets.
In the final DJSS match for the round Seville batted first and reached 9/161 with Dean Troyahn (73) and Matt Walker (31 not out) getting their side to a respectable score after it was in trouble at 5/60. Tim Dwyer chipped in with 28 while Mark Appleby with 2/23 was Silvan’s leading bowler.
Chasing the score Silvan took until the final over to get the points with 8/165. Jamie Cornford contributed 50 and Clint Sharman 25, while young Seville spinner Stephen Morgan took 5/28 from his 10.
In other Yarra Valley news, the Sri Lanka Under 19 tour was badly affected by the rain during its week in Melbourne and the two Wandin lads, Simon Young and Jackson Wright, chosen in the VCCL side did not get to play against the Internationals.
But a day of mingling included great festive luncheon.
