LILYDALE BMX Club will be running a spring racing carnival – with pedal-power replacing horsepower.
Members have worked extensively on their track ahead of the Spring Cup race meeting on 18 October.
The meeting will be run in conjunction with round five of the Eastern Region Metro Plate series, and organisers are anticipating an exciting, fun day of racing, with one of the highlights being the inter-club relay challenge, where various clubs enter teams to compete for the coveted Spring Cup Trophy.
Since making its debut into the Olympics in 2008, BMX racing has experienced renewed interest and growth.
Lilydale boasts some top riders including Healesville competitors Josh Callan and sister Ziggy, and Steven Gedye. All are members of the Victorian State Squad who competed in the UCI World BMX Championships held at Adelaide in July.
Josh is training hard to qualify for selection for the Olympics to be held in London in 2012 and has just returned from racing in the USA, Denmark and South Africa.
Steven Gedye has just returned from Ashmore in Queensland, having competed in the first round of the UCI Champbix, placing in the top three in the moto’s and finishing fifth overall.
Steven will soon be heading over to New Zealand to compete in the trans-Tasman, Australia versus New Zealand series.
The Lilydale Spring Cup will be held on 18 October at the Lilydale BMX track, at the corner of Nelson Road and Anderson Street, Lilydale.
Racing commences at 10am and entry for spectators is free.
