A TIMELY century by former Sri Lankan under-19s batsman Dimitri Sirawardena helped Johnson Park over the line in its Round 2 Knox Tavern Cup clash against Belgrave.
The Sharks defeated the Magpies by 20 runs with Sirawardena scoring 101 not out.
Peter Dunlop and English recruit Adam Burgess gave solid support registering 40s with the ever-reliable Scott Vozzo topscoring for the Pies with 63.
One worry for the Belgrave bowling attack is that it has taken only taken seven wickets in the first two matches.
Reigning premier Ferntree Gully (9/237) was rock solid, recording its second win, easily accounting for St Johns Tecoma, all out for 176.
For the winners, left-hand batsman Luke Bowyer is in good form with 92 and Adrian Millard reached 51.
Former Upwey player Corey Walters took 3/27 for the Saints.
Upwey has two wins on the board after defeating Rowville by 12 runs with Steve Gannell and former Richmond captain Matt Mulcahy steering his new Tiger team to safety with the bat.
Mulcahy is already showing himself to be an outstanding operator behind the stumps.
Lysterfield allrounder Kyle Snyman was best afield with an unbeaten 59 in his team’s victory over The Basin by two runs.
Medium pacer Shane Burdon performed well with the ball taking 4/25 to register Lysterfield’s first win of the season. The Eildon Park Panthers were steady, taking the points against Monbulk by 14 runs with skipper Josh Dowling leading the way with 43.
Dual Feaver Medallist Shane Cosstick, never out of the game, claimed 3/19 leaving Monbulk winless after two rounds.
In the final game, Knox Gardens went down to Upper Gully by 27 runs despite Simon Grasser’s excellent return of 5/36.
In the De Coite Shield, Lee Leathem (4/19) and new Mornington speedster Simon Dignan (3/9) routed Mountain Gate for 107 in the local derby.
Matt Hepburn, returning to the Footballers line-up, steered his team to an easy win with 61 not out.
Knoxfield easily accounted for Knox with Matt Train (58) in good form and Tommy Boxell (43) back with the side after a year at Hawthorn Monash University.
New coach Ben Morris chipped in with 3/30 for the winners and South Belgrave (138) was too good for a struggling Auravale, all out for 55. Daniel Maxwell (30) and White (3/11) were best.
